What’s the Best Flooring for Your Garage?

February 1, 2020| Garage Envy| 0 Comment

It can feel like the one area of your garage that you can’t change when trying to upgrade is your floor. Standard concrete slab seems like the only way to go because that’s what we are generally used to. Although you can change your concrete floor in various ways, like painting or staining, you don’t have to have stick with concrete. Here are some other options for garage flooring that could work for you!

Carpeting

Carpeting might initially seem like a poor choice for a garage given the fact that it isn’t known for resisting tough stains. However, there is carpeting that is made specifically for garage floors that are stain resistant and easily cleaned by hosing down with water. These garage carpet tiles can be found from a variety of companies and are easy to install. If a section of the floor becomes damaged, these tiles can simply be replaced without having the whole floor redone.

Don’t worry, your garage carpet can’t be pulled up this easily!

Roll Out Mats

Roll out mats for your garage flooring is probably the easiest way to transform your plain concrete slab. Their name is pretty self-explanatory, all you have to do is sweep debris off the floor, unroll the mat, cut the excess and voila! The mats are fairly durable but could be damaged by a variety of garage interactions, such as hot surfaces (like tires), kickstands or sharp tools, and household chemicals.

Interlocking Tiles

An easy way to upgrade and customize your concrete slab is to install interlocking tiles on top. The tiles do not have to be adhered to the floor itself, allowing for easy installation and manipulation for changing the design in the future. Like carpet tiles, interlocking tiles make it easy to repair damage sections without having to do a complete floor overhaul. With tons of colors and patterns to choose from, you can truly create your own design at ease, unlike rollout mats. The tiles are resistant to oil and grease, as well as easy to clean up. The surface is slip-resistant to make walking around with snow melt a much easier task.

Easily clean your garage floor with a hose to wash
away any excess oil from your car without fear of
slipping and falling.

Porcelain Tiles

Out of all the options previously stated, porcelain tiles provide the most amount of class to the overall aesthetic of your garage floor. This type of flooring provides durability with decadence, adding elegance and beauty to a space that is not known for either. Porcelain by nature absorbs a very small amount of moisture, which makes it more frost-resistant, as well as more stain and damage resistant. However, if not properly sealed and maintained, this means that porcelain tiles are more slippery when wet since the moisture does not seep into the flooring.

Best flooring for your garage

Although you can’t interchange select tiles like interlocking
tiles and carpet tiles, you can still create a completely
custom look with porcelain tiles.

So, what’s the best flooring for your garage? That is up to you! All the options discussed can work and come down to personal preference. Try starting with a free design consultation and estimate and begin the journey to your perfect garage.
