Don’t Make These 4 Spring Cleaning Mistakes in Your Garage

February 1, 2020| Garage Envy| 0 Comment

Spring is here and we all know what the means for our homes: spring cleaning! Home organization is something that causes stress year round. One survey even shows that worrying about if your home is organized enough is one of the top five most common triggers of stress. However, doing something with good intentions for your home can produce bad results. Here are some classic spring cleaning mistakes to bring to your attention so you can be aware of what NOT to do.

Cleaning mistakes in your garage

Spring doesn’t only make us think of flowers. Let’s get ready to clean!

Starting Off on the Wrong Foot: No Game Plan

Spring cleaning has many benefits, with one including reduced stress from purging old items and now knowing where all your needed items are. The biggest mistake you can make that will add stress instead of alleviating stress is to start cleaning for the sake of cleaning without a plan. You will quickly feel overwhelmed, end up rushing through the process and cause more harm than good.

Dressing for the Wrong Occasions: Improper Clothing

Spring cleaning a garage is pretty labor intensive, meaning there will be lots of movement: bending, lifting, pushing, pulling and therefore sweating. You want to wear clothes that breathe, allow you to move freely, and that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Most importantly make sure to wear comfortable closed toe shoes! We love a good flip-flop, especially for incoming summer months, but you don’t want a show that can easily fall off your foot or leave your toes open to injury.

Being comfortable will make the entire spring
cleaning process easier, and even more fun.

Setting the Wrong Expectation: Cleaning too Much at Once

It’s easy to get caught up in the motivational spirit of Spring cleaning and try to take on too much. Big mistake with your garage! Try to set your goals to something that can be completed in one day. You don’t want your items to sit out overnight and be susceptible to the weather. If you know you have so much to do in your garage that it will take multiple days, try to spread it out into several one day projects over a couple weeks. This will help your planning process and keep stress lower.

Cleaning in the Wrong Manner: Using Household Cleaners and Chemicals Improperly

We use household cleaners and chemicals for Spring cleaning because they are powerful and effective. This is also their downfall. Rushing to start to cleaning without reading the directions for each cleaner completely can end up in disaster. Make sure you know how to not only clean with the cleaner of choice but also how to dispose of it. Some stronger products need extra special care when disposing of, so please follow all given instructions properly. Take the few minutes to read the directions to save you lots of time that a mess can cause.
