Cleaning Out Your Garage? Make Sure You Plan Your Attack First

February 1, 2020| Garage Envy| 0 Comment

80% of home clutter is a result of disorganization and not a lack of space. A garage is certainly no exception to this, as many of us use our garages as a storage unit for our larger or less frequently used items. As we look forward to the warmer spring weather, spring cleaning becomes something on the brain and cleaning a garage becomes a top item on the list. You can make this seemingly daunting task doable by coming up with a plan before tackling your big garage cleanup and reorganization.

Even garage cleaning needs some classic brainstorming!

Plan It Out

When you are coming up with your plan of attack for your garage, you want to make sure you have a clear focus on what your goal for the cleanup or reorganization is. It is so easy to get distracted once an organization project has gotten underway based on the items you are uncovering and the ideas they create. Pre-planning keeps you on target so you are not wasting precious time.

Planning is helpful if there are multiple members of your garage cleaning task force. It can be easy to lose focus once underway if you are alone, nevertheless if there are other people helping. Having a simple and well-defined plan before anyone sets foot in the garage will put everyone’s time to the best use and get your project done in the way you wanted.

Having additional help is great! Avoid any unneeded
tension with everyone being on board with a plan of action.

Planning will also alleviate unnecessary stress in what can already be a stressful experience. A TIME.com article once presented the idea that the number one method to reduce stress was planning.

Sort It Out

Part of your plan should be accounting for items that you need to keep versus ones that can be repurposed. Before starting the cleanup/reorganization, determine which items are ultimately staying no matter and that are your essential garage items. This will help you better prioritize which additional items you can keep instead of donating or selling at a yard sale when you are going through your non-essential garage items during cleanup.

Map It Out

Make sure you map out your ideal garage flow when creating your plan. This is to help you determine how you would like your items to be stored. Are you the type of person who wants your items stored by how often they will be used, or by season, or by size? This will help you know exactly where to store the items you are keeping and will save you time in the future when searching for these things.

Garage

Create a system that makes sense to you and you will be very pleased with your final result.
